Most of the amenities are within comfortable walking distance of the development. Those walks are made much more safe and pleasant by the Township of Langley’s extensive pathway system.
“The Township has made a huge investment to ensure the communities and neighborhoods are walkable,” says Daniel. “They’ve constructed these wide, meandering pathways alongside the major roads and most of the side streets; residents can comfortably walk to the central hubs for shopping and dining. Our development, Willoughby Walk, is being incorporated into the path system.”
When most people think of moving from the city to the suburbs, they assume that their life will be lived in cars. It’s a big drawback for a lot of people who enjoy being able to walk to the local shops, restaurants or bars. But the Township of Langley, and especially Willoughby, has done its best to keep that walkability aspect within the fabric of its community.
“I’ve been very impressed with how the Township has prioritized the pathway system. They’ve also prioritized the aesthetics – it’s not just sidewalks, they’ve really landscaped them to add to the beauty of the community. The township is very big on trees, so these pathways are like full on greenways. Over many years, they’re just going to get more and more lush and beautiful.”
Willoughby sits among one of the fastest growing communities in British Columbia, and it’s quickly adding to its roster of attractions and entertainment. A family at Willoughby Walk can head over to the Langley Events Center in less than five minutes to catch a Vancouver Giants WHL game. There’s also a strong rumor that the LEC will soon host an NBA G-League affiliate of the Portland Trailblazers.
“The Langley Events Center is definitely becoming a major attraction across the Lower Mainland. It hosts international gymnastics tournaments, lacrosse leagues, and the basketball, volleyball and hockey teams of the local Trinity Western University. If the G League comes here, it will draw basketball fans from all over the Pacific Northwest. But the best part for local residents is the Willoughby Community Center, which has a state-of-the-art fitness facility, playgrounds and turf fields. It’s great that that’s all within a five minute walk of our development.”
The Pathway System will continue to grow substantially in the coming years. “The idea is to be able to walk all the way from City Hall to Walnut Grove, all on these wide, meandering paths. It will connect lots of parks, tennis centers, bikeways – it just makes for a much more pleasant and active community to live in.”
