The undeniable bond between humans and animals inspired ENM Construction Management to take on the Langley Animal Protection Society’s (LAPS) project to build (LAPS) a Cat Intake and Isolation Facility (ISOasis).

You might be asking, what inspired us to pursue the project? Well, here’s why.

Feline Isolation Shelter

Getting to Know Our Furry Friends

Hundreds of millions of cats are kept as pets around the world. They have a mutualistic and commensal relationship with humans and a sweet personality that make them great pets. Just like dogs, cats can be human’s best friends too. In fact, statistics show that approximately 57 percent of cats were adopted as pets in 2015.

Here are some of the characteristics of cats that make them lovely pets:

✔  Cats are independent. They know when to give humans space when they need it.

✔ They have the ability to read humans, knowing when they are needed.

✔ Cats are among the smartest animals in the world.

✔ They keep humans entertained with their funny gestures.

✔  They are low maintenance pets.

The innate affection for animals inspired our team to pursue the Feline Isolation Shelter project. Many cats end up in shelters which is why we decided to extend our helping hands to the community. We want to participate in limiting the spread of feline-related diseases by building an isolation shelter for abandoned and rescued cats.

Building Home for Paws

The latest statistics released by the Canadian Federation of Humane Societies (CFHS) shows that over the past 20 years, the total feline admissions on shelters were about 82,000. With the continued effort to put cats back into homes, an increase in demand for an isolation area also rises. This paved the way for the collaboration between ENM Construction Management and Langley Animal Protection Society.

In building the shelter, our team made sure to incorporate the essential elements in constructing a home for cats:

• Spacious Suites

Cat shelters need to be big and open. With the 1100sqft ISOasis building, we wanted to make sure there are enough spaces for all the facilities essential in a feline shelter, such as feeding station, recovery, and storage facility.

• Air Filter

A built-in air filter will be put to ensure that airborne diseases will not spread, and the temperature will be carefully managed to create the best environment for healing. Of course, the cats’ safety is our top priority.

• Safe Space

The building’s spaces are constructed to hospital-level standards using medical grade building materials, such as FRP washable walls that are bacteria resistant and fire retardant. This is to ensure that both cats and people entering are protected from diseases.

• Fully Furnished Suites

Comfort is among our top priorities in building the ISOasis building. We have constructed 12 fully-furnished suites that are designed to provide for the needs of felines. The building also has feeding stations that help ensure that all cats will be properly nourished.

The feline isolation shelter of Langley Animal Protection Society is one of ENM Construction Management’s notable projects. It is a manifestation of our growing dedication to serving the community and securing all its resources.
