We at ENM are a well-rounded bunch with diverse interests, way beyond our mastery of construction and development. Some of us play golf, some of us bowl, some of us even go curling. But our co-founder Daniel Greenhalgh steps it up a notch with his hobby of trail riding on his new horse.
“My girlfriend Amy actually got me into it. We love to go out riding, and we just got a new horse in December. She’s a lot more ambitious with it – she’s training for competitions in reining, which is a series of events in a show arena involving running specific patterns. We went out to watch some of these competitions, and that’s what got me interested in sponsoring some of the awards.”
The Western Canadian Reining Association hosted its West Coast Classic in mid-July, and Daniel agreed to sponsor a buckle that is given out to the 1st place winner in a specific age group.
“The buckles are a great prize, they’re made from solid silver by the Association. Different companies or organizations sponsor the prize, and we thought it would be a great way to help support the Association and the competitions they host.”
Daniel and Amy attended the Classic and witnessed first-hand the amazing feats of the quarter horses in competition. “The most impressive thing for a reining horse are these slide stops they can make. It’s like watching a well-executed hockey stop, but it’s a rider on a massive horse executing this. It’s very difficult and it usually brings home the prize.”
Daniel and ENM also sponsored a buckle for the Fraser Valley Reining Club’s recent competition.
“These groups are fairly small and they rely on the sponsors to keep the competitions going. It’s a fun thing to be able to contribute to, and we’re happy we can support this kind of community group. They’re non-profit organizations, and they place a big value on professionalism and sportsmanship in their competitions. I think it’s a great sport.”
When asked if he plans to compete himself any time soon, Daniel quickly turned the conversation back to purpose-built rentals.
